Lexington, Ky. (February 21, 2024) – Space Tango, a leader in microgravity hardware, software, and automation proudly announces its award of approximately $5 million to support the Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) division within the NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) for the historic Artemis II mission. As part of this collaboration, Space Tango has been entrusted by NASA to support biological data collection for the first crewed test flight to lunar orbit since Apollo.
“The Artemis II mission is a significant milestone in human space exploration, and we are honored to support NASA,” said S. Sita Sonty, CEO of Space Tango. “With our expertise in integrating hardware, software, and science, Space Tango is poised to enable scientific data collection at a greater scale.”
NASA’s BPS will leverage Space Tango’s expertise and proven flight heritage of over 260 investigations. Existing capabilities include brightfield and fluorescence microscopy, fluidics management in transit or orbit, and live science return for further analysis.
Space Tango was also recently awarded a NASA SBIR Ignite contract in December 2023 to support the development of a robotic laboratory hood known as TangoBox. With over $60M through NASA and additional grant programming, Space Tango continues to serve as a leading provider for applications on Earth, in low-Earth orbit, and now in lunar orbit and beyond.
“Space Tango is now growing from platform agnostic to orbit agnostic. I am excited that we will help unearth answers in a new space, and inspire the Artemis generation while we do it,” said Sonty.
